A Year Where Something Did Not Happen

That is correct although we thought a couple of times that it would happen, it never did. What did not happen in the year 2012? I never had to be in the hospital to have an infection treated. The last time I’ve been in the hospital to have an infection treated was October, 2011. I really could not be happier about this.

Even though the Spinocerebellar ataxia has caused me to develop double vision and I seem to be having trouble remembering people’s names and words, all of which means I have slipped a bit, at least I am happy about staying out of the hospital.

It’s been a GREAT YEAR.

I used to be as active a person as I could be with having had both hips slip out of place when I was a boy. In the early 80s I had a number of hip surgeries and finally hip replacement. Then, in the early 1990 it was determined I had some type of a demyelinating disease. In the early 2000s I was confined to a wheelchair. Finally after a long argument with my doctor, I retired. At the time I was a senior programmer at a hospital. In early 2005 I was diagnosed with Spinal Cerebellar Degeneration. About a year after retirement, I had to have a Foley and a Tracheostomy making it difficult to talk. So now I maintain my extended family web site. Do a lot of Instant Messaging with family members. Because my wife works and all the children are out of the house, I spend my days alone sitting in the den. This blog is not a place where I post thoughts on world events or a place where I talk about my deep and enduring Faith that keeps me going. It is my on-line diary. Some days I will write and some days I won't. When I write, it may be about how I am feeling, about a memory, about something I've done, or about my daily struggle with my disease.
